An unwelcome addition to NCN Route 1, at the entrance to King George Field.
According to the Gazette, under the headline, 'Cyclists will dismount', after "a year-long campaign by residents and councillors", this "gate" has been installed "amid fears cyclists could be knocked off their bikes by cars pulling out of driveways".
Given the residents are joining a road, crossing a pathway and a cycle route, they are the hazard in their ton of metal, and as such a 'Cycle route ahead' warning sign would have been more appropriate than an attempt to thwart cycling.
