How to ruin a perfectly good cycle path? Cover it in gravel.

The sweeping bends always felt like an attempt to thwart speeding down this hill, but covered in gravel no-one is going to be travelling at any speed for fear of coming off their bike. Mountain bikes may be fine, but road bikes -- even tourers -- will find it quite "skittish" and unnerving. Maybe that's the idea?
